just look at the Israel/iran situation...has that gotten any less volatile?

certainly the world economic state of affairs seems headed toward a not-so-nice ending

and the uprising of the "peaceful" muslims throughout the mid-east has to give any thinking lover of freedom some pause

I would like to see this become the new Republican slogan...the issue of illegal aliens effects every branch of our economy, security, and well being as a nation

it makes you wonder if obama had some other reasons for his trip to Hawaii to supposedly visit his sick grandma whom he previously threw under the bus as a typical racist...Hawaii officials seem to be the only ones saying obama is a natural born citizen...everyone else seems to be saying he was born in Kenya...his Kenyan grandmother and Kenyan ambassadors , are all on record as saying that, and it seems everyone residing there is quite proud of the fact obama was born in Kenya...doesn't it seem there is a big story there somewhere?

it's quite strange to me that I feel indifferent about b. hussein obama becoming our next president...I voted for McCain...I wanted McCain over obama...but I really didn't want McCain either

conservatives really didn't get a choice in this election

the Republican primaries were set up with states up front that allowed independent and cross-over voting...those are the people that gave it to McCain...the numbers showed conservatives rejected McCain over and over, but the independent/cross-overs loved him...it's evident that those independent/cross-over voters went for obama in large numbers...so the Republican nominating process was sabotaged from the start

not that we really had any good conservatives to choose from anyway

who is going to take the mantle and lead a conservative movement?...my bet is the best chance will come from the crop of Republican governors...senators and congressmen are just too jaded from their D.C. service...something weird happens to even good people when they get swallowed up in the D.C. morass...what popular opinion wants to call "experience" turns you into a McCain, a McConnell, or worse...you want to "compromise" and "get along" and get invited to the parties, and most importantly, get re-elected so you can continue to ride the gravy train

abortion - the real issue

everyone has a view on abortion...and most rank the issue near the top of their list - especially when it comes to appointing justices or electing politicians

we have anti-abortionists murdering doctors who perform abortions...we have fervent abortion supporters claiming there are no moral questions around "partial birth abortions"...polls show most of us stand somewhere near the middle of these extremes, as one would expect

first off, there are some major problems with the names thrown around in this whole debate...can we just be honest and admit that "pro-life" people are really just "anti-abortion"?...sure, they are "pro-life" - who isn't?...they are probably also "pro-family", "pro-America", and "pro-Christian", but none of these have any bearing to their position on abortion...they are just "anti-abortion" when it comes to any abortion discussion...the reason they refer to themselves as "pro-life" is politically they feel it's much better to be "pro" something than "anti" something

"pro-abortion" people probably really do exist, but most of those called "pro-abortion" by the "anti-abortion" folks are really just "pro-choice"..."pro-choice", by definition, means following through with the pregnancy is an option, or abortion is an option...obviously, people who are "pro-abortion" would think most if not all pregnant women should get abortions - and there are some anti-population growth weirdos who probably fall into this category, but most "pro-choice" people do not

regardless of how you feel about abortion, you should be honest enough to use names properly

what is missing for both sides in this quagmire is the real issue...anti-abortionists call abortion murder...pro-abortionists call abortion a choice...the real issue is: "WHEN DOES LIFE BEGIN?"

if you believe life begins somewhere between conception and birth, you are probably anti-abortion...if you believe life begins at birth you are probably pro-choice (or perhaps pro-abortion)...so the question really becomes "when does life begin?"

most "anti-abortion" folks are also born-again or evangelical Christians...many are also Catholic, as the Pope and the Catholic Church have been consistenly anti-abortion...although the Bible never discusses abortion, evangelical Christians are near unanimous in their opposition to abortion...I urge these Christians to consider there is Biblical support for the concept that "life begins at birth"

Genesis 2:7 "the LORD God formed the man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being."

this clearly indicates that life begins at first breath...obviously, you can come up with rational arguments to the contrary (beating hearts, etc.), but there is no denying a logical stance for a Biblical position that life begins at birth, based on Genesis 2:7

there are a variety of other issues that should give anti-abortionists pause...birth defects, rape, and incest, just to name a few...how do people feel justified in forcing a woman, or couple, to give birth to a horribly deformed infant?

and from there we walk down that slippery gray slope of increasingly lesser birth defects...Down's Syndrome, spina bifida, Sickle cell, cystic fibrosis, cleft palate, heart defects, diabetes, the list goes on and on...about 250 birth defects can be diagnosed in a fetus...do we really want to force a woman, or couple, to have a child they feel, for whatever reasons, all concerned would be better off by not having in the first place?

these are often painful, and even horrible questions...but I don't think the remedy is a government mandate...pray you or your family are never faced with such a situation

the anti-abortion folks also need to face up to some major inconsistencies...most glaring among these is miscarriage...when a woman miscarries, do we have full blown funerals?...is there a homocide investigation?...is there an autopsy?...no, because we recognize that a fetus is not a person

in spite of the sadness when a hoped for child ends with a miscarriage, we do not treat it the same as when a person dies...even rabid anti-abortionists must concede this point in their own actions...doesn't this make is obvious that there is a difference between a fetus and a person?

but rather than both sides shouting various platitudes and insults at one another, why don't we just accept that the real problem is just our belief of one simple fact?...and that is a question that cannot be decided in this lifetime

the real issue remains: WHEN DOES LIFE BEGIN?

as election season again approaches I am always struck by the ongoing efforts to take more and more dollars away from working Americans...initiatives and referendums across the land cry out for additional confiscation of our money...I like to look at who lines up supporting all these tax increases...more often than not it's those who benefit financially

the problem with this scenario is there are a lot of people who are not putting any money in the pot, who are voting to force me to put more money in the pot for them!...you probably can't blame someone for voting to get more of my money...the question is why should they have a vote on my bank account?

we are a society of tax payers and tax receivers...we all receive benefits from tax dollars to some degree (roads, national defense, public education, etc.)...but more and more we are confronted with issues where benefactors of tax increases that pay none of the tax dollars have an equal vote with those of us who DO PAY and often will receive little or no benefit from the specific tax increase in question

FAIR taxes - a correct definition

how often do we hear "fair" used while politicians and wanna be politicians are arguing over our tax system?...liberals are constantly whining that tax cuts are not "fair" because they give more to the "rich"

let's go back and find a correct definition for fair, as it relates to our tax system

start with why we pay taxes: to pay for the costs of running America...now imagine we were just a small group of people, and we needed a system to pay for the expenses associated with our group...what would be the fair way to divide up these expenses?...this is a question which seems rhetorical, seems so easy that you could ask any grammar school student, and they could supply the correct answer:

you divide the expenses equally among everyone

if your expenses are $100 and you have 10 people, fair is each person pays $10...there is no other way to define fair

now I realize we will never have a tax system where everyone pays the same amount...but can anyone logically, accurately, define fair in any other way?

so we go on, and we say, well let's all just pay a percent of our income in taxes...but do we all pay the same percent?..."no" cry the masses, "that wouldn't be fair"...so we get a graduated scale where "the rich" pay higher percentages on their income...please, you can think any socialistic thoughts you want about how good that system is, but you simply cannot call it fair!

let me give you just one example to ponder: how would you like to go to the gas station and be told: "if you make over $100,000 a year, it's $5/gallon, $50,000 to $100,000, it's $4/gallon, $25,000 to $50,000, it's $2/gallon, $10,000 to $25,000 it's free, and if you make less than $10,000 a year, we will pay you $1/gallon to take it"...sounds absurd, and none of us would stand for it, but how different is it from our current income tax system?

and could someone please explain to me why we stand for a system with rules, loopholes, and regulations so complex that 10 out of 10 tax experts consistently disagree on how the laws apply for a given situation?...and my personal favorite is calling the irs help line with the same question 10 times consistently yields 10 different answers - but the taxpayer is still responsible for doing the correct thing (whatever it is ultimately ruled to be)

but what really burns my grits is arguing for a fair tax system...can we at least start with the correct definition of what would be fair, and go from there?

I was listening to Art Bell the other night...he declared how easy it was to analyze the whole Terri Schiavo case: "...if there is no signed declaration to the contrary, you have to continue her feeding tube/life support..." (paraphrase)...Art is obviously correct...her so-called "husband" should have been eliminated from any caretaking decisions when he abandoned Terri and shacked up with his current mistress, as pointed out by my friend, Hugh Hewitt

but this all got me thinking about what I would want to have done for me if I were in Terri's place...my initial inclination is I would never want to live like that...it just seems like it would be a horrible existence and an awful burden on my family and friends...situations like this often end up financially bankrupting families...I made plans to draw up living wills for my wife and myself

and then I started thinking about the human capacity for adapting to life's situations...how, when people are thrown into an environment that seems unbearable, unliveable, they rise above our expectations and survive and often even thrive...think about that soccer team that crashed in the mountains and survived by eating their dead teammates...think about innocent people imprisoned and even placed on death row...think about p.o.w.'s like John McCain who survived horrible conditions...in a lesser degree, consider those who were once wealthy adjusting to an average or poorer lifestyle...the human animal has an extraordinary ability to adapt

and so, could it be that Terri, or some remnant of her being, is surviving, even thriving in the shell that we see?...could whatever is in there actually still be enjoying her life?...may she be progressing, healing, advancing in some way?...and even if she is not, might someone else in her position, maybe even you or I, survive or overcome such an illness or condition?

so you see, this is yet just another gray area, of so many gray areas, in the human existence, our decision trees...abortion, euthanasia, suicide, right to die, obligation to die...Solomon would be challenged

even those who cry that taking out the feeding tube is tantamount to murder, recognize the compromise of their position...if you truly believe someone is being "murdered" you take whatever means is necessary to stop it...if the President truly believed it, if the Governor truly believed it, they would send in police or troops to put the feeding tube back...if the rest of us truly believed it was murder, we would heartily support that action

but we don't...we acquiesce to the courts...we tacitly acknowledge that it is a judgment call...largely because most of us think we would not want to live as Terri does now

lately, I find myself turning off the news more often than not...radio and tv seem obsessed with stories that are so reprehensible, so disturbing, that I find myself unable to listen...moreover, I have an adolescent child, and often in the car the news comes on the radio and with no warning at all we are hearing in detail about the rape, torture and murder of juvenile children by some deranged sicko...I don't want to listen to that report, and I really don't want my son hearing that story...yet, we hear these reports over and over again, leading every newscast with every unseemly detail imaginable...michael jackson, scott peterson, muslim decapitators, teachers having sex with students, the list just goes on and on and on

I'm not asking for a ban on reporting disgusting stories...but can't we cut back on throwing them in the public's face at the top of every newscast?...can't there be some restraint in assaulting us with the horrible details?...can't there be a warning that this "item" may not be suitable for children?...can't we report on rapists and murderers from the point of view that these are god awful crimes committed by sick whacko inidividuals, rather than report from an "objective" standpoint?

the real problem I have with the gay rights push to demand acceptance as normal is our children, and the effect on them...going through adolescence and puberty is confusing enough without someone telling them that they ought to consider if they are gay...if a boy is shy around girls, or a girl feels like she would prefer not playing with dolls, you don't help them by confusing them with another choice for their sexuality

it is ok to be gay, just don't think it's normal, because it is not...if you are gay because that's your choice, or that's what you believe you are, or that's just the way it is, fine - just don't try tell us it's normal

but all these "accept our terms" click boxes, that if you don't accept you can't get the data you want, are just ridiculous...ups has one...my company internet email has one...so many websites have them that you would think someone ought to realize that no one reads the terms, they just check another box as a requirement to get to the data...do they really think checking a box is going to swing a legal case their way?

why doesn't bill gates add an option to passport that says something like: "I accept that anything and everything I see on the internet will ruin my life, make me bankrupt, give me cancer, and kill me - GIVE ME THE GODDAM DATA!"

kobe and tyson...a couple very hi-profile "rape" cases...both of them really break down to a he-said she-said...at what point does a consensual encounter turn into rape?...can the woman change her mind in the middle of the sex act, say "no", and then claim rape because the man stopped in 2 seconds and she thought he should have stopped immediately?

don't get me wrong...no means no...rape is a horrible crime of violence and I want any man who rapes a woman to spend a long time in jail, if not the rest of his life

but these cases where a woman goes along with everything, then either after the fact, or well into the act, she seemingly changes her mind...that's rape?...that's something that should send a man to prison?...I don't think so

what kills me about the tyson conviction is the woman's statement to the press: "I wouldn't have pressed charges if he would have apologized"...is that the mind set of a rape victim?...tyson must have had some of the worst legal council in history...no way he should have gone to prison on that one...now you can say that his actions after prison show what a bad guy he is, etc., etc....but I'll tell you that if he had not gone to prison, there is a reasonable chance that mike would have turned out to be no where near the psycho that he is now...he may have even been a pretty good, fairly long-lived boxing champion

kobe got off with a good legal team...what do you think kobe would look like several years down the road if he spent a few years in prison on a bum rape charge?...hard to say, but his life could have taken a tyson type turn as well

A solution to world terrorism...a start anyway

as a start to solving the muslim terrorist problem let me suggest that after each and every suicide bombing or other atrocity committed by a muslim terrorist, a group of muslim leaders who denounce terrorism (there are some aren't there?) hold a press conference where they clearly proclaim:

"let us make it very clear to all muslims and to the rest of the world...the young muslim who did this is NOT going to heaven, is NOT getting any rewards from allah, etc., etc....this young muslim is GOING TO HELL as are all young muslims who commit such heinous crimes"

are there any muslim leaders who are willing to proclaim their religion does not reward suicide bombers but that allah will send them to hell?....if not, what do they believe is the eternal outcome for these suicide bombers?

let me repeat that question: what do muslim leaders believe is the eternal outcome for these suicide bombers?

this is a piercing question which when specifically answered will enlighten all muslims and the rest of the world that is looking at islam and wondering what the hell is going on with this religion...and it just might get a discussion going within islam that will help convince their young men that suicide bombing does not have the rewards their whacko leaders have been telling them

how bizarre is Dan Rather?...in the face of growing evidence that these documents he brings out to try frame W are forgeries, he stonewalls and insists on their authenticity...then he starts to backtrack with something to the effect of: "well even if they are forged, the spirit of the documents is true"....huh?....the meat of his report was the documents...then he gets some old lady with an agenda to vouch for what the forged documents say anyway?

Rather has a bad blood history with the Bush family....the 1st President Bush dressed down Rather while Dan was trying to nail George the 1st with the iran-contra connection...Rather was obviously flustered and embarrassed during that 1988? exchange and it seems Danny is still trying to get his revenge on the Bush clan...kind of makes you expect to see Kitty Kelley interviewed on the next cbs evening news, doesn't it?

something is wrong with islam...ridiculous statement as it seems so obvious, but no one seems willing to actually confront this issue...not the Democrats, not the Republicans, not the national media, and probably most importantly, not the muslims themselves

you continually hear various islamic leaders and representatives respond to questions on whacko muslim suicide bombings with something like: "...we think this is wrong...", but more often than not, you also then hear something like: "...but these people (palestinians, chechnens, sunnis, etc.) have been horribly wronged..." you are always left with the feeling that the muslim who is pooh-poohing the terrorist sympathizes with them as well...this is a very telling insight into the mind of muslims...it makes you wonder how they talk in their mosques when discussing terrorist acts...are they more sympathetic, or more condemning?
